The solution is woven directly into your Google Nest smart thermostat experience and is powered by Google’s partner, Renew Home. By joining Nest Renew, you can enable Energy Shift to make small automatic changes to your Nest thermostat to help you save when it matters most.[Footnote 11](#first-foot-note-1) Where applicable, you can also [link an energy provider account](https://support.renewhome.com/en_us/categories/link-energy-provider-HJIVel_G1e) for additional benefits. When we each do a little, it can add up to a lot. Nest Renew is a no-cost service and only takes a few minutes to get started.[Footnote 22](#first-foot-note-2)  ## Benefits of Nest Renew * **Energy Shift:** [Energy Shift](https://support.renewhome.com/en_us/what-is-energy-shift-HkiGLBSf1e) can help you save energy when it matters most by reducing your usage or shifting usage to cheaper or cleaner times.[Footnote 11](#first-foot-note-1) Nest Renew works with your compatible Nest thermostat to automatically adjust your thermostat's set point in line with your preferences.[Footnote 33](#first-foot-note-3) These subtle adjustments are based on personalized inputs like comfort preferences, local weather, clean energy supply, and grid needs. Energy Shift not only helps you save at times that support cheaper or cleaner energy,[Footnote 11](#first-foot-note-1) but also contributes to a more reliable grid for you and your community. You can also see the Leafs and milestones you’ve earned. ## Earn Leafs and reach milestones You can earn Leafs when you use Nest Renew. They appear on your compatible Nest thermostat to let you know when your thermostat is set to an energy-saving temperature - or when an [Energy Shift](https://support.renewhome.com/en_us/what-is-energy-shift-HkiGLBSf1e) is happening to help you prioritize cheaper and or cleaner energy.[Footnote 11](#first-foot-note-1)  You can also see the Leafs you have earned on your Nest Renew dashboard, where they add up to milestones to track your progress over time. To participate in Nest Renew, you need a compatible Nest Thermostat and to reside in an eligible area: 1. **Compatible Nest Thermostat** * Nest Renew requires a 3rd or 4th generation Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, or the Nest Thermostat, connected to a Google account or a [migrated Nest account](https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676#migrate-nest-account). With your permission, Nest Renew is here to help you adjust your thermostat to help you save. You have full control over your devices and can make adjustments in the moment, or change your settings anytime. It’s all based on your preferences, and you're never locked out from making changes. **How do I access Nest Renew?** Customers can track their progress and impact in Nest Renew's monthly reports or check any time at [nest.renewhome.com](https://nest.renewhome.com/), which can also be easily accessed from **Settings** in either the Nest or Google Home apps. **Does it cost me anything to join Nest Renew?** It won't cost you any extra to use our platform with compatible Nest devices. If millions of homes choose to shift energy when the grid is stressed, energy providers don't need to build as many new power plants. You get smart energy features and help saving, and energy providers support Renew Home so you don't have to. Everybody wins. **What does ‘cheaper or cleaner’ mean?** Energy prices can vary depending on the time of day – these are called "time-of-use" rates. So, Nest Renew can help shift your energy use to when rates are cheaper. How clean the energy is on your local grid changes too. Weather can reduce output from clean sources like wind and solar farms. Or, at times of extreme demand, energy providers may have to turn on additional fossil fuel power plants. And Energy Shifts can help by shifting your use to when energy is cleaner. Energy Shifts can help you save, and your actions could have a positive impact.  ## Sign up for Nest Renew You can sign up for Nest Renew while setting up your Nest Learning Thermostat. While setting up your Nest Learning Thermostat If your zip code is eligible for Nest Renew, a screen will appear that says, ‘See how your thermostat can help you save’ after you confirm your address. 1. Tap **Next**. 2. You will see a screen that says, 'Energy Shifts help you save.' Tap **Ok****.** * _You can also Tap **'Reject savings'** to skip enrollment in Nest Renew._ 3. You’ve successfully joined Nest Renew, and will receive a welcome email shortly. In the Google Home app 1. Navigate to **Home Settings.** 2. Tap **Subscriptions**. 3. Select **Nest Renew**. 4. Tap **Enroll in Nest Renew.** 5. Confirm/Edit your home address.  6. Next, a screen will appear that says, 'See how your thermostat can help you save.' Tap **Next**.  7. The next screen will say, 'Energy Shifts help you save.' Tap **Ok.** 8. Savings from prioritizing cheaper energy are only available for customers on certain electric energy provider time-of-use rates.
