# What you need to participate in Nest Renew?

To participate in Nest Renew, you need a compatible Nest thermostat and to reside in an eligible area.

1.  **Compatible Nest thermostat**
    *   You need a compatible Nest thermostat to participate in Nest Renew. Nest Renew requires a 3rd or 4th generation Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, or the Nest Thermostat, connected to a Google account or a [migrated Nest account](https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676#migrate-nest-account).
        
        *   If you don't have a Nest thermostat and you live in California, you can purchase one from our [online store](https://store.renewhome.com). Otherwise, you can purchase one from [Google](https://store.google.com/category/nest_thermostats?hl=en-US) or a retailer near you.
        *   If you need help setting up your Nest thermostat, visit [Google Nest Help](https://support.google.com/googlehome/?hl=en).
2.  **Reside in an eligible area**
    *   Nest Renew is available to users in U.S. states except Alaska and Hawaii. However, certain features are only available based on specific zip codes in California and Maine. The following zip code may have limited functionality:
        *   _California zip codes: 90704_
        *   _Maine zip codes: 04730, 04732, 04734, 04735, 04736, 04738,04740, 04742, 04745, 04746, 04750, 04751, 04756, 04757, 04758, 04760, 04761, 04762, 04763, 04766, 04769, 04772, 04773, 04775, 04779, 04780, 04783, 04785, 04786, 04787, 04851, and 04852._
    *   We’ll confirm your eligibility when you enter your address during the enrollment process.

## Regions offering additional benefits

In some regions, you will soon be able to unlock additional benefits by linking your energy provider account, like the ability to detect time-of-use rates without manually entering the information. This can help increase your energy savings by adjusting energy use to off-peak hours to take advantage of cheaper rates with Energy Shift (learn more about [Energy Shift](https://support.renewhome.com/en_us/all-about-energy-shift-HkiGLBSf1e)). As always, you’re in control and can opt out or override these adjustments at any time.

We currently support integrations with the following energy providers in California:

Linking your energy provider account may also enable [Rush Hour Rewards](https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9244031?hl=en) for eligible users.

## How to sign up for Nest Renew

You can sign up for Nest Renew while setting up your Nest Learning Thermostat.

### While setting up your Nest Learning Thermostat

If your zip code is eligible for Nest Renew, a screen will appear that says, ‘See how your thermostat can help you save’ after you confirm your address.

1.  Tap **Next**.
2.  Tap **Ok**.
    *   _You can also Tap **Reject savings** to skip enrollment in Nest Renew._
3.  You’ve successfully joined Nest Renew, and will receive a welcome email shortly.

In some regions, you can unlock additional benefits by linking your energy provider account. If you’re in an eligible zip code, you will also be prompted to link your energy provider account during this process:

1.  Tap **Continue** to link your energy provider.
2.  Select your energy provider, then tap **Continue**.
3.  You will be guided through steps to link your energy provider account. See below for instructions on the following energy providers:

4.  After you’ve successfully linked your energy provider account to Nest Renew, you’ll be promoted to tap **Close** or **x** in the top left corner to finish setting up your Nest thermostat.
